In the Skarvan and Roltdalen National Park, Prestøyhytta (NTT) and Schulzhytta (TT) tourist cabins are located, both along the “Norge på tvers” (Norway Across) route which starts by the fjord at Stjørdal and ends at the Swedish border by Sylan massif.

Kvitfjellhytta (NTT), Stordalshytta (NTT), Ramsjøhytta (TT) and Storerikvollen (TT) are within a day’s walking distance of Skarvan and Roltdalen National Park.

Prestøyhytta.

Prestøyhytta tourist cabin

Prestøyhytta is a self-catering tourist cabin owned by North-Trøndelag Tourist Association. It has been recently renovated and has 16 beds. It is located just inside the border of the national park in Selbu with a view of the Stråsjøen-Prestøyan nature reserve. Prestøyhytta is located along the “Norway Across” route between Kvitfjellhytta and Schulzhytta. You can also start at the entrance point at Vekta in Selbu and hike approx. 6 km along a paved path. This path is currently (2021) unmarked and has been adapted as a tourist trail.

Schultzhytta.

Schulzhytta tourist cabin

Schulzhytta tourist cabin is owned by Trondheim Tourist Association and is staffed during Easter and the summer. At other times during the year, it is self-catering. The cabin is in the heart of the national part under Fongen by Stormoen in Roltdalen in Selbu. It has 36 beds.

Schulzhytta is a long way from the main road. It takes a day’s hike to reach the cabin. The cabin is located along the “Norge på tvers” (Norway Across) hiking route between Prestøyhytta and Ramsjøhytta tourist cabins. The shortest route to Schulzhytta in the summer is from entrance point at Hoemskjølen in Selbu. Or you can walk from Bjørneggen in Meråker or from Græsli in Tydal. There are marked winter routes from Synnåsen in Selbu, Bjørneggen in Meråker and Græslihytta tourist cabin in Tydal.

 

Ramsjøhytta.

Ramsjøhytta tourist cabin

Ramsjøhytta is owned by Trondheim Tourist Association and is located just south of the national park in Tydal. It stands right at the mouth of Lake Ramsjøen with a view of Fongen. The main cabin has 24 + 6 beds, while the annex has 12, of which 6 are in a separate part where dogs are permitted. A new main cabin has been under construction since the summer 2021. Ramsjøhytta is on the “Norway Across” route between Schulzhytta and Storerikvollen. You can hike/ski in summer/winter to the cabin from Græsli in Tydal or from Bjørneggen in Meråker. During the summer, it is also possible to hike there from Skarpdalen in Tydal.

Bjørneggen.

Bjørneggen

Bjørneggen is owned by the North-Trøndelag Tourist Association and is a self-catering tourist cabin in Stordalen in Meråker. There is a road all the way to the cabin and there is full access for disabled visitors on the 1st floor. Today’s cabin was completed in the summer of 2021. It has 38 beds. There are marked hiking trails from Bjørneggen and to Schulzhytta, Ramsjøhytta and Storerikvollen

Norge på tvers (Norway Across) – the Sylan expedition.

This is a special hiking package available from the tourist association. You follow the tourist associations’ marked hiking routes from the Trondheim fjord in Stjørdal to the Swedish border at the Syl Massif in Tydal. The entire trip is 120 km. Along the route, there are places to stay in either self-catering or staffed tourist association cabins. The entire route should ordinarily take seven days. Parts of the route are not suitable for cycling and on the parts of the trip located in the national park, cycling is prohibited. Read more about the hiking route: https://www.norgepatvers.no/
