This is where you can discover the magnificent stunning mountain countryside of Trønderlag and see traces of how people worked the remote countryside long ago. There are fantastic nature experiences to be had – steeped in culture and history.
About the national park
The landscape is characterised by its ancient coniferous forests, high mountains, and expansive marshes. The rushing brooks and rivers provide plenty of opportunity to catch trout or char. This, together with countless traces of human activity from several hundreds of years ago, creates a rich landscape packed with culture and history.

Experience Skarvan and Roltdalen
The forest, mountains, and lakes make the national park a beautiful area to explore by foot or on skis. There are numerous tourist cabins and well-marked hiking trails. There are plenty of excellent opportunities for hunting, fishing and berry picking.

Travel and accommodation
There is a well-established network of summer and winter trails in the Skarvan and Roltdalen National Park. Hiking trails are clearly marked. In winter, trails are marked with poles along the side of track. Trondheim Tourist Association (TT) and Nord-Trøndelsg Association (NTT) have cabins and a trail network in the area.

Trail starting points
You can start your visit in the national park from Bjørneggen in Meråker, Sildra in Stjørdal or Vekta and Hoemskjølen in Selbu. At these spots, you will find parking spaces, information boards about Skarvan and Roltdalen National Park and marked trail routes into the national park (Please note: the starting points are under construction; therefore, not all the information and marked trail routes are ready).

The diverse plant and animal life, as well as the distinctive landscape, is protected so that future generations can experience it.
